The Z and Alpha Generations in the English classroom
“What sets apart the current generations of language learners from previous age groups? What are their key characteristics? How are their learning needs different? What role does technology play in addressing those needs? What teachers can do to motivate and engage their Generation Z and Alpha students in the English classroom?”
Bio: I started out in English Language Teaching as a teacher in a Budapest secondary school in 1990. Between 1999 and 2011, I worked as an editor for Oxford University Press, then set up my own publishing services company, Consonant Kiadó and became a freelance author, teacher trainer and editor. Among numerous teacher’s books, practice and test materials, I also co-authored the coursebooks Oxford Exam Trainer B1 and B2 (OUP), Achieve (OUP) and Straight to Advanced (Macmillan) as well as a B2 exam preparation course for the telc exam in English. My teacher training and conference work has taken me to over 35 countries worldwide.

Developing Writing Skills in the Teen Classroom
“Sponsored by Cambridge University Press & Assessment”
Blurb: Writing can be one of the most challenging skills for students to master and for teachers to teach effectively. How can we transform our classrooms into vibrant spaces that excite and inspire students to engage in writing tasks? How can we boost learners’ confidence and ultimately develop their writing abilities? In this session, we will try to answer these questions and empower teachers to better support students in honing their writing skills. We will also refer to Prepare 2nd Edition and see how its content aids in accomplishing this goal.
Bio: Ben has been a teacher for over 14 years and has worked in the Czech Republic, Jordan, Libya, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. He has experience teaching nearly all age groups and abilities in a range of contexts including state and private language schools. In addition to this, he has also worked as a teacher trainer and has an interest in materials development.

Empowering the Future: Teaching Sustainable Development Goals to School Children of All Ages
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the United Nations in 2015, represent a global framework aimed at addressing critical issues such as poverty, inequality, environmental degradation, and peace. While these goals are essential for adult populations, educating school children about the SDGs is equally crucial for fostering a sustainable future. This talk explores the significance of teaching the SDGs to children, emphasizing their role in shaping a more just and sustainable world.
Bio: Nadia Theochari is an experienced ELT Consultant.
She holds a B.A. in Languages from the University of Athens, as well as an M.Sc. in International Marketing from the University of West Scotland.

She is a skilled teacher of English as a foreign language, with experience in both public and private school settings. She has also worked as a Director of Studies in numerous language centers, as a Language Assessor for international exams, and finally as a writer and editor for ELT publishers.
In recent years, Nadia has focused on teacher training and ELT consulting and is currently involved in educational projects on behalf of Hamilton House Publishers and marketing projects for a number of countries in Europe, Asia, Central and South America, Africa, etc. In fact, her passion for helping teachers has led her to attend seminars on Communication, Leadership, Artificial Intelligence, and Teamwork.

Encouraging independent learning for exam classes
In this practical presentation, we’ll look at what independent learning is and how it can help your students achieve their short- and long-term goals. We’ll discuss the real-life relevance of commonly held views concerning independent learning, both positive and negative. Then, with the help of supplementary materials, we’ll also outline techniques and activities for introducing independent learning to your classes.

21st century learning techniques for the Z and Alpha Generations
“In today’s fast-changing world what students need is less about memorising particular pieces of knowledge (WHAT they learn) and more about developing skills that help to acquire any new skill and to adapt flexibly to any new situation (HOW they learn). What techniques can we employ in the language classes to develop our students’ ability to learn, and then continue learning throughout their lives?”

Integrating Sustainable Development Goals into English Language Teaching
During this workshop we will provide age-appropriate strategies for introducing Sustainable Development Goals concepts to children at various educational levels—preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school—using storytelling, interactive activities, research projects, and community engagement. By incorporating the SDGs into education, we will develop activities to empower young learners to take ownership of global challenges, build critical thinking skills, and become active participants in creating positive change. Educators will be encouraged to adopt innovative, interdisciplinary approaches that engage students in real-world issues, equipping them with the tools to contribute meaningfully to achieving the SDGs.

Teaching Listening for exams – what and how?
Often teachers prefer to focus on the productive skills in class, where corrections are tangible and improvements are clear. The challenge with Listening, however, is that it is an internal process, which is not always easy to teach or correct. In this session, we will look at how different types of Listening tasks in the Cambridge exams work, outline how students can develop their listening processing skills and try some practical activities that you can use in class with your students.
